Blazers picked to win GSC

The Valdosta State football team has been picked to win the Gulf South Conference, according to the conference's Preseason Coaches' Poll.
The Blazers received three of the four first place votes and one second place vote to garner 15 total points; West Alabama was second with 14 points after receiving two first place votes and two second place votes. Delta State was picked to finish third, followed by North Alabama and West Georgia. Shorter is not eligible for the conference championship as the school is not yet a full-time member.
Valdosta State also placed eight players on the All-GSC Team — four offensive and four defensive players.
Three offensive linemen, Edmund Kugbila, Mesh Wokomaty and Ryan Schraeder were named to the team along with wide receiver Gerald Ford, who missed the entire 2011 season due to academic issues and returns this season for his redshirt junior season.
Defensively, defensive end Tyler Josey and tackle Lawrence Virgil were named to the team. Linebacker Chris Pope and cornerback, preseason All-American, Matt Pierce were also named to the team.
The Blazers open training camp Monday.
